Our Partnership

A Landmark Partnership: CRI and AOHRNE Unite for Arab Civilization Rights

The Civilization Rights Institute (CRI) is proud to announce a pivotal Memorandum of Cooperation with the Arab Organization for Human Rights in North Europe (AOHRNE), formally established on April 29, 2023. This landmark partnership signifies a profound commitment to safeguarding, promoting, and empowering Arab cultural and civilizational heritage, particularly within Northern Europe, and enhancing the resilience of the communities that carry its legacy.

The Critical Need for Collaboration

In an era of rapid global change, the protection of cultural and civilizational heritage faces unprecedented challenges. While international agreements, such as UN conventions and WIPO intellectual property laws, offer frameworks for heritage protection, they often fall short in fully recognizing the inherent ownership rights of indigenous peoples over their tangible and intangible heritage. This gap leaves invaluable traditions and artifacts vulnerable to commercial exploitation and misrepresentation.

Adding to this complexity, climate change and natural threats pose escalating dangers to heritage sites and their associated communities, often exceeding the scope of existing protective measures like the UNESCO Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage. These issues are particularly acute for Arab heritage communities, which frequently grapple with socio-economic vulnerabilities, civil conflicts, and external interventions. Such pressures can lead to mismanagement and exploitation, both locally and internationally, severely jeopardizing their capacity for recovery and long-term sustainability.

  • Humanitarian Support: Providing humanitarian and relief support to Arab heritage communities affected by crises, such as wars and conflicts, to promote their sustainability.

Anticipated Impact and the Path Forward

By combining AOHRNE’s regional focus on human rights in Northern Europe with CRI’s broader mission to protect civilization rights globally, we aim to create sustainable positive change. This collaboration will foster greater understanding, enhance resilience, and cultivate profound respect for cultural diversity across borders, empowering communities to be active stewards of their own invaluable cultural identity.

The signing of this Memorandum of Cooperation underscores a mutual and unwavering dedication to defending the invaluable heritage of Arab civilizations and championing the rights of their communities in an increasingly interconnected and rapidly changing world.
